Preparing a Wall for Painting

erhaps one of the most enjoyable yet messy of all the home improvement activities is painting walls. Painting gives off that sense of completeness in your renovations, a feeling that makes you see the results of your hard work visually. Yet, this is one of the hardest and trickiest tasks in home improvement. If done improperly, your hard work will go to waste and your wall would look like it has seen better days. Painting looks easy but preparations for it is very crucial to get great and professional-looking paint job. One of the most important steps here is to prepare the wall you will paint on.

To prepare a wall for painting, you must first remove everything on it. This includes things such as wall hangings, wallpapers, posters, light switches, light fixtures, electric outlets, and even the wall’s old paint coat depending on its current condition. If the wall’s old paint coat is crumbly and/or has air bubbles, it is best to remove it first before coating a new paint. Remove all dirt and dust off the wall as well and sand off the rough areas of the wall for a truly smooth finish.
